Something new to me on my street

I live right next to STOMP. See if you can locate the theatre in this video. Also, times are tough even for super heroes.

An Image Archive

Have you ever wished for a blog that was just a collection of images, an archive of sorts, of things that represent trends in fashion, style, and cool? I found one! I started reading a blog that lead me to another blog that landed me here.

I love it! And, at the same time wish i'd come up with it. Here are a few things that caught my eye on it.

Billy Elliot

I was able to see an amazing play last friday night. A 10 time, Tony award winning play called Billy Elliot. The best show i've ever seen, with every part being played by the most talented performers I've ever seen. I was able to see that there is a very clear difference between good and great. The story centers around a boy with a gift, a gift that if nurtured could inspire a community, a community barely surviving. A cast of characters centered around the boy with the gift of ballet help him to finally find his way, but not without Billy Elliot having to fight prejudices, bigotry, and his own family to find out what he can truly achieve.

It was awe inspiring to see such a young performer being able to dance ballet perfectly, tap dance so skillfully, sing so poignantly, and the talent to act is off the chart. I walked away feeling that the only people we can blame for holding back people that can change the world for the better, are those people that stopped growing in their hearts and their minds before they could fulfill their own dreams. I hope everyone gets a chance to see this Elton John inspired play.

Nom Nom Nom on a Coney Island Dog

Yum!

My girlfriend's creativity knows no bounds. I unknowingly let her document my Coney Island dog eating skills. I was experimenting with the aperture settings on her camera and with the day being so cloudy, we came up with some interesting photos. I can't wait to share what we shot.

Some things to look forward to, even rivalries.

What can I say? despite all the shitty things that have happened during this move I have one bright spot. I received a letter today. It wasn't obvious from the front what exactly it was but the message inside was really clear. Only a couple more days and I get to see my gf after a very long time apart. Okay, maybe three weeks isn't that long but who wants to explore such an amazing city without their partner in crime. I've already got several things planned and I'm not the planner type. She's offered to help me figure out my apartment space. I'll be counting the seconds until she gets frustrated with it and dumps my ass. What can I say? She's the best! She's also the thriftiest I might add, which is nice because that is one thing I'm definitely not. I spent an extra $10.50 the other day to take the scenic route home. Turns out I was on the wrong subway train! I did learn something though, Harlem is just how you picture it in your head...fading in the background as your feet run faster toward the closest cab.

I found my favorite hangout! A very cool place called the Village Pourhouse, not sure why they named it that because it's the nicest sports bar in the villages. It turns out it's 4 blocks away from me and it's a KU bar!!! Lots of KU people come out to celebrate Hawkdom every Saturday.

On a much sadder note. A local bar 2 blocks down from me is falling apart, in shambles, run down and in disarray. Turns out it's the MU bar in the villages called Standings. You can call it historic but we all know it's never seen a championship. Sad.

And that's how you keep a rivalry alive, even in NYC!

That Guy's first post

That Guy has apparently moved halfway across the country to live in New York. To get even more specific I've moved to the East Village in Manhattan. I'm roughly between 1st & 2nd Ave. on 7th st. The most amazing thing is that my ZIP which used to be 64116 is now 10003. How cool is that!? 10003! Blows my mind. The first thing people wanna know is, is it expensive, I bet your place is small. My place isn't that bad but yes, it's expensive to live here. However, living here is very doable. I'm going to keep this short but here are some thoughts.

My Area!

A. Always thank the dude that grabbed your arm and held you back from becoming a taxi driver's next big fish story.

B. Hardcore Raiders fans here are scared of getting knifed by the Chiefs fans. Quite the role reversal.

C. I have yet to see a rat but I thought I did...turned out it was a cockroach.

D. Everyone's single. Apparently, even when they're married.

E. Be careful when walking through times square. Someone stole my virginity the last time I went through it.

F. Invest in headphones. If only to allow yourself to be rude to people and they won't yell at you.

G. The camera adds 30 lbs. on models. I was in Bryant park for fashion week and thought I was at the holocaust museum.
(to soon?)
It's okay, 80 year old neo-nazis weren't shooting up the place so I soon realized where I was at.

I'm tired. I leave you this image from that new show hoarders. oops.
